Slate dining tables
The perfectly smooth Welsh slate that we reclaim from derelict vintage snooker and billiard tables not only has a gorgeous look and feel, it is also remarkably durable and easy to maintain. Stain proof and virtually impervious to liquids, slate will retain its appearance almost indefinitely, even in direct sunlight and extremes of temperature. In short, a slate table top can cope with just about anything that family life throws at it. As a result, it is ideally suited to use outdoors, on the patio or in a conservatory or summer house. And even if it does become scuffed or marked, the natural lustre of slate is restored by simply wiping it over with olive oil.
The standard size for the 1 piece slate dining table is 1 metre (width) by 2 metres (length) an ideal size for 8 people to sit around.
Hand-built furniture
At Slate Furniture Works our tables are hand-built to order. We can cut the table top to precisely the size you need. For greater flexibility and practicality, we can even add a special ‘centre pocket’ to the middle of your table, to house a removable ice tray or planter, for example.
Our reworked and refinished mahogany and oak legs are also upcycled from snooker and billiard tables, and naturally provide an ideal match for the thick slate tops. To make sure that your new table blends perfectly with your home or garden, we shape and paint the legs in our Letchworth workshop to your exact requirements.
