- Unrestored snooker table

- Snooker dining table
Thanks to Tom my potentially fraught purchase of a snooker/pool table became very easy ….and in the end was a very enjoyable experience as he skilfully restored and refurbished the table to my exact specifications.
I was buying a pool table as an anniversary gift for my husband but having never personally played pool or snooker before I was very much in the dark. Once we had decided we wanted an “older” rather than a new table and it was going to be for pool rather than snooker I started my search.
I ended up finding an old Riley billiards table on ebay which I purchased but was slightly concerned about how I was going to collect it, especially as most sellers commented on the need for several strong men to be present as any slate bedded table is very heavy……but then whilst talking to Tom about him restoring it for me, Tom offered to do the collection and take it straight to his workshop. So the huge collection problem was removed (and Tom’s collection quote was slightly less than quotes I’d had from companies who didn’t have the experience of transporting snooker tables).
I then met Tom at his workshop to discuss the options and, most importantly, my budget and together we agreed on the refurbishment programme. Tom was able to source 3 matching older net pockets to replace the 3 damaged ones and he restored the leather pockets and replaced the winding mechanism with a wooden structure as we knew we were never going to use the table for dining. Bolt covers were sourced to replace missing ones and the mahogany was brought back to life. The table was recovered in a specialist burgundy pool fabric and delivered and installed to our home ready for play.
It couldn’t have been easier and we now have a beautiful piece of furniture which is bespoke to us and which has already provided hours of entertainment….and been much admired.
I would happily recommend Tom’s services to anybody contemplating buying an older table – his knowledge, ability and professionalism are second to none.
